Sign of Death – Revival – review

Solid combination of Thrash and Death metal

An EP but not exactly an EP, in fact it's more of a mini CD because it's 5 tracks with strong music. Let's start from the back of Marynia, i.e. from the cover - a nice, classic death metal image in shades of grey and brown - there's a skull and wings and we can expect strong, death metal thrashing, and yet it's a little different... But only a little. I'll mention here the classic of Polish death, i.e. Vader - this cover would easily fit any album of this band. So let's go with Sign of Death and we'll get back to Vader.

War of Minds

No Compromise

I See My Death

Hopes and Dreams

Lost

These are the titles that make up Revival. The entire material is very characteristic riffs and this should be praised because despite the band being pigeonholed into the scene of basically melodic death metal, nothing here is boring. The guitars play triplets straight from the djent scene, death metal tremolos, melodies from heavy metal, harmonies like Iron Maiden and - which is not so obvious - sometimes clean guitars appear, and all of this is beautifully sprinkled with colostrum, set on fire and thrown into a cauldron fired in Mordor from steel melted from crashed tanks. Oh, how beautiful it is! How it eats! Like such a steel monster breaking through the city, running over cars, walls of grocery stores and even ice cream stands!

The tempos are varied, fast but without blast beats. We regularly hear solos. And what about the vocals? And here we refer to Vader again - apart from the last track, vocally I associate it most with Piter's singing, but more legibly (e.g. Sword of the Witcher) and it is indeed an art to sing death metal in such a way that you understand the words and it actually works. Musically, for me it is a combination of Vader, Dismember, Unleashed, old Sepultura, but it is not a rip-off but good, solid beating in its own style.

Perfect music for a tank driver. If there is no tank, a car will do 😉

8/10. I would give it 9/10 but it is an EP, not a whole album, and sometimes I would like to hear blast beats, but that is just my opinion 🙂
